What a fantastic end to the day of learning. I am sure the students learnt a great deal. What did you think the best part of the lesson was for your students?
I think the students appreciated the most was that the police came down to school by helicopter and landed on the football field. I also believe that students appreciated the contact between youth and police
John, I am sure that an experience like this which is what we call here' authentic learning' will be very powerful for them. i also agree that any contact between young people and authority figures such as police can be very helpful. Did the students comment on this meeting? How did they react?
We have contact with the police on a regular basis so that pupils feel comfortable to have contact with police. We talk and can reflect with the help of the photographs we took on the lesson which I think is a great tool
Yes it certainly is a great tool and they can remember what they experienced and relate it to their learning. We have similar learning experiences in Australia and all the teachers comment on how successful such events can be. Do you have to do a lot of preparation?
What happens if some students are a lot further ahead in their learning than some of the others? Do you have extra work fro them to do? We often find that this is a problem in some of our courses.
There are usually many different stages in the project with varying degrees of severity and the students who needed challenged get tea the more difficult tasks. While the students who begin at a lower level of knowledge may take the simpler tasks
This is great John.
